After the last coat of compound has dried, sand over
the entire surface with a hand-sander.
Use about 120 grit sandpaper or
sanding screen.
Do not sand down to the joint tape or you will have to
skim the area with compound again.
Dust off the wall and prime over the patch, or the
entire wall using a quality wallboard primer. When the primer has dried
dry sand any rough areas with 120 or finer paper, check for any
imperfections you may want to fill, if you apply any more joint compound
it should be primed before it is painted. The wall is ready for finish
paint.
